1. Confirm your terminal before following any route
Haneda's international arrival procedures apply to both Terminal 2 and Terminal 3, but facilities and routes differ. Check your airline, flight number, and the airport's current flight information. Do not assume that every international flight arrives at Terminal 3.
2. Install connectivity; activate it at the right time
If your phone is unlocked and eSIM-compatible, install your travel eSIM while reliable internet is available. Check the provider's activation rule first: a plan may begin on installation or on first connection in Japan.
- Keep Haneda free Wi-Fi as a fallback.
- Do not delete a failed eSIM profile before reading provider support instructions.
- Screenshot the QR code and setup details on another device when possible.
3. Finish immigration, baggage, and customs in sequence
Use Visit Japan Web only through the official Digital Agency service. Follow airport signage and staff instructions. Electronic customs declaration terminals may be available while you wait for baggage, but the live arrival flow takes priority over any guide.
4. Choose transport from the destination, not the logo

5. Avoid the “buy every card” trap
A physical Welcome Suica may be useful, but availability and sales locations can change. JR East's current list should be checked on the day you travel. A compatible mobile wallet may be simpler for some phones; a regular ticket remains a valid fallback.
You usually do not need to exchange a large amount of cash at the airport. Confirm your own card issuer's foreign transaction and ATM fees, then use an ATM only if your payment plan actually requires cash.
