DIY transport baseline
JR East's timetable valid from March 14, 2026 shows direct Limited Express FUJI EXCURSION trains from Shinjuku to Kawaguchiko in roughly two hours. The train uses reserved seats only, and JR East advises buying the limited-express reserved-seat ticket ahead. The same timetable shows alternatives with a change at Otsuki.
Fujikyuko Bus publishes frequent Shinjuku services toward Kawaguchiko, Fujisan Station, Yamanakako, and other Fuji Five Lakes stops. Check the exact operating day, live timetable, fare, and reservation page. A direct highway bus is convenient but still exposed to road congestion.
The weather rule that changes the answer
JNTO says Mount Fuji is often obscured during the rainy season from early June to mid-July and says early morning or late afternoon can be better for close views. Local tourism guidance also notes that daytime cloud can build around the mountain. A forecast improves a decision; it does not guarantee the view.
What each famous stop costs in time
Arakurayama Sengen Park
Fujiyoshida's official guide places the famous observation deck at the top of 398 steps. A six-stop itinerary is not automatically better when its schedule leaves too little time for that climb.
Oishi Park
The official Fujikawaguchiko tourism site says the park is free, always open, and about 30 minutes from Kawaguchiko Station on the Red Line sightseeing bus. It is the simplest non-affiliate anchor for a slower DIY lake day. The lake-and-mountain view still depends on weather.
Oshino Hakkai
Official village and JNTO sources describe eight spring-fed ponds, not eight lakes. A 60–80 minute tour stop includes walking and any food or shopping time, so read the actual itinerary rather than counting the name as a full half-day visit.
Fuji Subaru Line 5th Station
The 5th Station is a road-access point, not the summit. Fujiyoshida City says snowfall, bad weather, snow removal, and maintenance can close or shorten access outside the climbing season. Choose this route only if the road experience still has value when a lower substitute is used.
