When do SHIBUYA SKY tickets go on sale?
The official ticket page currently shows standard tickets for dates up to two weeks ahead. It does not promise that every time slot will remain available for the entire window. Choose the experience, not just “sunset”
A sunset slot is not a guarantee of a visible sunset. Cloud, rain, wind, heat, and seasonal light all matter. If your priority is the open-air rooftop, compare the weather risk with the value of a scarce evening slot.
- Choose before 15:00 for the lower current price and a less sunset-dependent visit.
- Choose late afternoon if seeing the city change from day to night is worth the higher demand and weather risk.
- Choose night for city lights without building the whole purchase around one sunset minute.
Current public hours are 10:00–22:30, with final admission at 21:20. Your ticket is for an entry window, not permission to arrive whenever you like. The official site warns that late arrivals may be refused.
What to do when your preferred slot is sold out
- Check other official time slots on the same date.
- Check another date that genuinely fits your itinerary.
- Compare a clearly identified authorized ticket listing, including its cancellation rules and exact product inclusions.
- If nothing suitable remains, choose a different observation deck instead of an unverified resale ticket.
An official SHIBUYA SKY guide currently explains cancellation procedures for specified tickets sold by Klook, KKday, and Trip.com. That does not make every listing refundable. The guide says only eligible products qualify for free cancellation until the previous day, and cancellation is handled per payment rather than per person. Read the exact listing and booking record before relying on it.
The rooftop can close after you book
SHIBUYA SKY includes the indoor SKY GALLERY on floor 46 and the outdoor SKY STAGE rooftop. The rooftop may close without notice because of wind, rain, lightning, extreme heat, or another safety condition. The indoor observation area can remain open.
The official OTA guide says certain eligible partner tickets can be cancelled before entry when the rooftop is closed at the scheduled admission time. The rule is product-specific and time-limited. Do not assume the same remedy applies to every ticket or after entry.

Online purchase can continue on the visit date while stock remains, but there is no separate same-day reserve and sold-out inventory is not released again at the counter. The observation decks are indoors, but rain or cloud reducing the view does not produce a refund.

The official Tokyo government page lists free admission with no advance reservation. The South Observatory normally opens 9:30–22:00 with entry ending at 21:30. The North Observatory normally closes earlier and can extend when the South side is closed. Scheduled closure days differ between the two, and queues can exceed 20 minutes. Check the live schedule rather than treating it as an always-open backup.
